Agere Systems Inc. was spun off of Lucent Technologies in 2002 and was known for developing and manufacturing optoelectronic components and ICs for communication networks and computer equipment. Microsoft allegedly used key internet telephony technology from Agere to develop their own noise cancellation for VOIP. Agere operated offices and plants in several locations including China, Israel, and the Netherlands before it merged with LSI Corporation in 2006
